Here on this Planet

I am me and you are you,
We never got to decide,
What was given to us,
We were handed our life,
Handed our parents,
We couldn’t decide,
How we were brought up,
We were just given our lives,
Maybe it was good,
It could possibly be bad,
But it was not our decision,
It is just a thing that everyone has,
It may not be a blessing,
But we are all here for a reason,
We can’t decide what is handed to us
But we are all here,
And that means a lot,
Because we all have a place,
On this planet,
One for me,
Another for you

My Leg's Gone Missing

My flip flops slapped against the sandy ground beneath as I took a look at the ocean that was right there in front of me.  I couldn't believe it, I was actually at the tip of South Africa, the capital of sharks.  I wasn't nervous at all, I didn't even now about sharks at the time, I was 7.  I kicked of my shoes and splashed into the icy water.  I swam out and moved with the waves.
All of a sudden, a sandpapery skin was nudging my leg.  I looked down and saw a giant dorsal fin.  I screamed for my parents and started panicking.  I raced towards the shore as fast as I could, but it was to late.  The great white took hold of my ankle and started pulling me down while shaking violently.
I struggled helplessly as the monster continued to rip my flesh open and turn the water red.  I heard a motor and the world around me went black.
The room was completely white and a sharp pain was piercing through my leg.  I looked around a little more carefully and realized that I was in the hospital.  I looked down to see what was causing all of my pain, there was nothing there, my leg ended right above the ankle.  I shouted for my mother and started getting hysterical.  A nurse came rushing in with my parents at her side.  I then had a flashback of the day before and the razor sharp teeth that had ripped my leg open.  My parents explained what had happened.  When the guy in a motor boat had come to save me, he pulled and pulled but the shark hung on.  When he took one final pull my root remained in the giants mouth, but the rest of me was free.
The next few days were a blur.  I was in bed and having nightmares.  When I was finally let out of the hospital I was given a wheelchair.  I was getting a prosthetic leg once my stitches came out.  I couldn't wait to go back to school, even if it meant math and reading again.
When the day finally came for me to be back out in the real world, I was dropped off at school by my parents.  I was only seven at the time and it was pretty strange at the time.  All of the other kids were staring at me like I was an alien.
I got my prosthetic foot and was ecstatic that I was going to be able to start training for gymnastics again.  Apparently they forgot to mention to me that I was never going to be able to do gymnastics again.  But I was determined to get training.
On the next Monday I headed over to the gym and tried some arm stretches.  I kept working at it for the next weeks and was able to do a back walkover by the end of the month.  I kept in training even though people said I would never be able to do gymnastics again.  After lots of time catching up, I was at the same level as I was before the accident.  In the past five years I have kept at it and now am training to be a professional gymnast.
